Sam Weideman is expected to land at Essendon as soon as Monday, per reports from The Age's Michael Gleeson.

Weideman has played 59 matches for Melbourne since his debut in Round 20, 2016, including ten in 2022.

The 25-year-old struggled to break into the Demons' forward line throughout the year, now potentially making the cross-town move to seek more opportunity.

The Bombers will reportedly send a future third-round pick to Melbourne to land Weideman, with that pick set to be involved in Melbourne's dealings with Fremantle over Luke Jackson.

It's been reported that Fremantle are willing to offer pick 13 and their future first-round selection to see Jackson head west, but the Demons want more added to the trade table.

The Dockers reportedly may include a future second round deal in the trade in exchange for a pick in return, such as that acquired from Weideman, or that from the potential Toby Bedford to GWS trade.

Once the Weideman deal gets done, it is reportedly set to spark movement between the Demons and Pies on a Brodie Grundy trade, with Collingwood then given opportunity to finalise deals for Tom Mitchell and Brayden Fiorini.

The 2022 AFL Trade Period will run until 7:30pm AEST on Wednesday, October 12.
