Ex-Bombers captain Jobe Watson believes Ricky Dyson is the unsung hero of the 2009 Anzac Day classic that saw David Zaharakis kick a goal at the death to pinch the game from the Pies.

Zaharakis' match-winning play drew all the praise from the win, but Watson believes Dyson's goal that brought the Bombers within a goal isn't talked about anywhere near as much as it should be.

โ€œThe thing that probably gets overlooked is that with about three minutes to go Ricky Dyson has kicked a goal from the boundary line, 50 metres out in the pouring rain,โ€ Watson said on the Working Through Itpodcast.

โ€œNot once is this talked about.

โ€œRicky actually put us within a kick and all you get shown is Zakaโ€™s goal when poor old Ricky just gets overlooked.

โ€œThen Leroy (Jetta) fell over and missed the unmissable goal that wouldโ€™ve put us in front before (Zaharakisโ€™s goal), so it was funny the way it turned out like it did.โ€

For the first time since 1995, this years Anzac Day game will not take place due to the season being postponed because of the coronavirus.

A pre-recorded ceremony at the MCG will be shown on both Channel 7 and Fox Sports on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the day.
