Hawthorn youngster Bodie Ryan has kept Box Hill's season alive in the VFL after kicking a match-winning goal as the siren sounded on Saturday to eliminate Brisbane's reserves from the flag race.

The Hawks capped off a stellar comeback win in style, with Ryan converting a set shot from approximately 30 metres out on almost no angle.

As Ryan's kick sailed through the big sticks, the final siren sounded at Box Hill City Oval, with the home side clinching a three-point win to progress to the penultimate weekend of the 2025 VFL campaign.

The Hawks trailed by 33 points at the final break of the game, with the Lions having enjoyed a strong third term to be favoured for the win at three-quarter time.

While the Queenslanders kicked three goals in the final term, the Hawks kicked nine in the last to double their goal tally and snatch a famous win in the state league.

The Lions had taken back the lead late into the contest, booting the last two goals before Ryan stood up to decide the contest, with the South Australian ending his day with two goals from 19 disposals and six marks.

The victory means the Hawks will proceed to a preliminary final against Footscray next week, with the winner to earn their place in the 2025 VFL Grand Final.

The corresponding preliminary final will be hosted by Southport, who defeated Box Hill in week one of the finals, with the Sharks to face either Casey or Frankston for a place in the 2025 VFL Grand Final.
