Carlton has reportedly asked the question about Collingwood free agent Jamie Elliott, who is weighing up his options.

Collingwood has offered Elliott a two-year deal to stay at the Magpies, but it is believed that Elliott wants a longer contract.

The forward is also considering a move to the Gold Coast Suns, as the Suns have shown strong interest in him.

The Blues may be looking for potential forward line additions given Charlie Curnow could seek a trade out of Princes Park.

According to 7 News reporter Mitch Cleary, Carlton have joined the race for Elliott two days out from the free agency period opening.

If the Blues were to sign Elliott, it would not offset their compensation pick for Tom De Koning's move to St Kilda.

Elliott played 25 games this year and booted 60 goals, the most of his career.

The 33-year-old is an unrestricted free agent, meaning Collingwood will be unable to match a bid and force a trade deal for their attacking livewire.

The free agency window will run from Friday to October 10.
