Port Adelaide is set to be without captain Connor Rozee for an extended period after succumbing to a serious hamstring injury that is expected to involve nerve damage.

Rozee was helped from the ground in Sunday's win over Essendon in the third quarter, with the skipper saying he went numb as soon as it happened.

Prior to his scan on Monday, Rozee provided the following update: "It's pretty sore this morning.

"It was a strange one. I've done little hamstrings in the past, and it sort of went numb. My leg, I couldn't walk on it, so I was hoping it was some sort of nervy thing, but yeah as that wore off, it got a lot sorer and a bit more isolated.

"Not exactly sure what it is but I don't think it's going to be minor.

"Just talking with the docs, worst-case scenario is surgery, and best case is like a bad strain or something nervy. Trying to be optimistic."

Power coach Josh Carr tried to provide some more context around the injury in his post-match address as well as how it "soured" his first win as senior coach.

"He's obviously a bit flat. It doesn't look great," Carr said.

"It doesn't look great. Initially there was a bit of nerve damage, (he) couldn't feel his leg, reviewing it after the game it looked likely a tendon involved but that's the most likely scenario.

"It sours (the win) because our skipper has what could be a significant injury, and we don't want that for anyone in our football club.

"We're flat about that, but someone else gets an opportunity to come in and fill that role."

If the outcome is a tendon issue, Rozee will likely require surgery to reattach the damaged tendon, and could miss at least 10 weeks of football.
