With AFL clubs having returned for pre-season training, the countdown for the 2026 season is on.

Coaches begin experimenting with new game plans and younger players begin pushing for spots. Every session counts as players push for Round 1 selection.

But not all players feel the same levels of pressure, with some under far more scrutiny than others. Whether it was a failed trade move, underperformance or stalled development, these are the 10 AFL players with a point to prove in 2026.

5Luke Davies-Uniacke

The 26-year-old struggled to reach the heights of previous seasons in 2025. Although he finished third in North Melbourne's best and fairest, Kangaroos fans would have been hoping for more.

His average of 24.7 disposals was his lowest since 2021, while his contested possession and clearance numbers were also down on previous seasons. After polling 62 coaches votes in 2024, Davies-Uniacke received only 21 in 2025.

In a midfield that lacks X-factor and experience, North Melbourne need Davies-Uniacke at his powerful and game-breaking best if they are to challenge for finals in the coming years.
