With AFL clubs having returned for pre-season training, the countdown for the 2026 season is on.

Coaches begin experimenting with new game plans and younger players begin pushing for spots. Every session counts as players push for Round 1 selection.

But not all players feel the same levels of pressure, with some under far more scrutiny than others. Whether it was a failed trade move, underperformance or stalled development, these are the 10 AFL players with a point to prove in 2026.

10Chayce Jones

2026 looms as an interesting year for former first-round draft pick and Tasmanian local Chayce Jones. After debuting in 2019, Jones has played 97 games across his seven seasons at the club.

Jones has been used in every area of the ground since his debut, but was unable to lock away a spot in Matthew Nicks' side this season as they surged up the ladder.

His best football came in 2023 playing on the wing, including a career best game against Carlton in Round 5, collecting 28 disposals, nine marks and a goal. Following his hot run of form, he was signed to a three-year contract extension, seeing him remain a Crow until the end of 2026.

With Nicks preferring to use the likes of Isaac Cumming and Dan Curtin on the wings, he may struggle for senior opportunity again in 2026. With the introduction of Tasmania on the horizon and an expiring contract, it will be interesting to see how 2026 unfolds for Jones.
