Victoria and Western Australia have officially finalised their 25-man squads for AFL Origin, with the stage set for a blockbuster clash in a little over a week's time.

However, several notable talents have been snubbed from recognition in the return of representative footy, with multiple stars of the competition unnamed in the announcement.

Admittedly, many of them come out of Victoria, given the state's strength, but Western Australia have also left out a couple of star names.

So, here are the nine biggest snubs for AFL Origin.

Western Australia

Western Australia's most potent area of the field is certainly their forward line. Adding up the goal total for the listed forwards on each team, WA kicked 55 more majors than Victoria in 2025 (305 to 250).

Yet, that total could have been even greater for WA had they opted to include Fremantle gun Jye Amiss or North Melbourne veteran Cameron Zurhaar.

Amiss kicked 32 goals in last year's campaign, one of seven Dockers to average at least one goal per game in 2025. Zurhaar bagged 38 for a bottom-six North Melbourne attack, and recorded three or more goals on six occasions.

Considering that a 24-goal scorer in Callum Ah Chee earned the call-up, in addition to an ageing Charlie Cameron, who kicked 32 goals in 25 games compared to Amiss' 32 in 24, it's understandable if this pair of medium forwards are feeling disrespected.

Lastly, while injury decimated Oscar Allen's 2025 season, the 26-year-old has been recovering well and is on track to feature in Brisbane's pre-season fixtures. Allen is a proven star, kicking 53 goals in 2023 for a woeful Eagles attack and had been on pace to produce similar efforts in the last two injury-interrupted campaigns.

There are several star spearheads set to don the yellow and black guernsey next weekend, making Allen's snub easier to accept than most, but AFL Origin would have been a good storyline for the former Eagles captain, giving him the opportunity to win back some love from the West Coast supporters he abandoned in controversial fashion via free agency.

  1. Blockbuster clash? Now that teams are allowed to restrict minutes of the players it becomes nothing more than an exhibition game. They waited until it was a sell-out to announce it. People who bought tickets should be entitled to either a refund or a discount.
