The rumour mill has gone into overdrive following claims from veteran journalist Caroline Wilson that an AFL "comeback is on the cards" for retired Richmond champion Alex Rance.

With someone as full a resume as Rance has, the five-time All Australia would certainly be in demand should his services become available.

If Rance did indeed decide to return to the AFL, we've counted down the five most realistic landing spots.

1. Richmond

Of course, the most likely place for Rance to continue his stellar career is the very place he has spent the entirety of it and won a premiership at - Richmond.

Despite his retirement, Richmond have kept him on their list for this very opportunity. The majority of key people at the club, such as coach Damien Hardwick and 'brother' Jack Riewoldt remain along with many of his good friends.

The Tigers are firmly in their premiership window and with the 30-year old Rance realistically having two to three years left in the tank, Richmond look to be the best option for the champion defender to return and potentially win more premierships.

With the 'next Alex Rance' Noah Balta blossoming in 2020, imagine how imposing a defence featuring both players could be in 2021?
