After the completion of the 2025 AFL Draft, which saw 84 players selected by top-flight clubs, many fans and analysts have begun evaluating the potential of these draftees to leave an early mark.
While a pre-season is still ahead of us, there are already several prospects who are considered ready for the elite level of competition.
We highlight eight of the top candidates likely to make their debut in the early stages of the 2026 season.
Sam Cumming (Richmond)
One of Richmond's top 10 picks, Cumming is the modern-day prototype of a midfield-forward, highlighted by his incredible aerial prowess as well as his ground-ball skills.
The Pick 7 has been likened to Sydney's Isaac Heeney, and would slot in nicely to the Tigers' developing mix.
His competitiveness will impress the Richmond coaching group, while his SANFL experience against AFL-listed players and mature bodies will also bode well for the youngster.
"He is a prototypical mid. He is strong, combative, powerful, and we think he can go forward and have a real impact as well," Richmond National Recruiting Manager Rhy Gieschen said.
"We were really pleased to bring him in, and he complements those guys that we brought in last year, (Sam) Lalor, (Josh) Smillie, (Taj) Hotton, through that midfield/forward mix. A good result for us."
