As attention turns to the twists and tales that 2025 could offer, new and familiar names are set to emerge as the headline-makers who will shape the AFL in the new year.
The past 12 months saw the likes of Adam Simpson, Christian Petracca, Ken Hinkley, Laura Kane and Harley Reid prominently feature in the news, wanted or not.
Some big names can already be predicted to catch widespread attention in the coming year, while there may be a surprise or two who take the cake.
So, in no particular order, these are eight of AFL's biggest expected headline makers for the 2025 season...
8. Luke Beveridge
Much like the aforementioned Hinkley, Beveridge is set to fetch high levels of external attention - if he isn't already - given his contract status at the Kennel.
The Dogs' premiership coach has constantly been forced to answer questions on his future since the end of the 2021 season - which the Western Bulldogs ended with a grand final appearance.
Since, Beveridge has failed to find September success - losing both of his side's finals appearances to extend his drought of top four finishes. All seven of his career finals wins have come in his two grand final-finishing years, with the Dogs keen to see a change to that trend.

A poor start to the 2025 season could quickly place Beveridge under the blowtorch, but the Dogs could bring their bite and shine under the familiar pressure.
