As attention turns to the twists and tales that 2025 could offer, new and familiar names are set to emerge as the headline-makers who will shape the AFL in the new year.

The past 12 months saw the likes of Adam Simpson, Christian Petracca, Ken Hinkley, Laura Kane and Harley Reid prominently feature in the news, wanted or not.

Some big names can already be predicted to catch widespread attention in the coming year, while there may be a surprise or two who take the cake.

So, in no particular order, these are eight of AFL's biggest expected headline makers for the 2025 season...

7. Chad Warner

The Sydney gun is sure to fetch headlines - namely out west - for a large portion of next year should he remain unsigned in the Harbour City.

While Warner isn't eligible for free agency, his off-contract status will still allow him to assess his future and potentially seek a move back home to Western Australia.

The Swans will be in competition with Fremantle and West Coast to attain the pacey ball-winner's services, which should demand well north of seven figures from 2026 onwards.

The Eagles look set to be loaded with salary cap room to make an aggressive move for the East Fremantle product and also hold multiple 2025 first-round picks after acquiring the Hawks' opening selection.

Fremantle might not have the same capital to compete from a trade perspective, but it'll be Warner's decision as to where he wants to play beyond the coming season.
