10. The Hudsons

The Hudson family are pound for pound the greatest goalkicking family in AFL/VFL history. Due to their considerable lack of career games in comparison to the other families on this list, the Hudson's only rank third in total goals, however the duo do (by some margin) come out on top in terms of goals per game with an extraordinary 3.09, beating out the Riewoldt's on 2.20 and the Ablett's on 1.57.

Despite a relatively short career in comparison to other greats, the legendary Peter Hudson's 129 games in the league were as good as they come. The Hawthorn spearhead's peak is possibly the greatest the game has ever seen, with the remarkable highs reached by 'Huddo' likely to never be replicated again. For example, the Tasmanian has the highest goals per game average of all time (5.64), the record for most goals kicked in a season ever (150), the third most 100-plus goal seasons ever (five), the fourth most 10+ goal games ever (10) and is Hawthorn's third highest ranked goalkicker in club history. Hudson's best performance came in a Round 5 clash against Melbourne in 1969 where he slotted 16 goals (third most in a game ever) and had 27 disposals. In terms of career accolades, Hudson earned himself one premiership, four Coleman Medals, two All-Australians, two best and fairests and six club leading goalkicker titles. He is also an inductee in both the Australian Football Hall of Fame and the Hawthorn Hall of Fame and is a member of the Hawks team of the century.

Much like his father, Paul Hudson was an elite goalkicking forward throughout the stretch of his AFL career. The half-forward kicked 479 goals (top 70 all-time) in 245 games and registered a notable four 50-plus goal seasons. In 1991 (just his second year of professional football), Paul finished top five in the Brownlow Medal and kicked two goals in a winning Grand Final, securing Hawthorn its ninth premiership. His resume also consists of one All-Australian honour, two club leading goalkicker titles and an impressive eighteen games of at least five goals scored or more. The best of these performances was an immense nine-goal haul against Collingwood in 1991, a game wherein Paul also racked up 24 touches.

The father-son duo combine for 374 games, 1156 goals, two premierships, three All-Australians and eight club goalkicking titles.

  1. Not a great effort Dale.

You include uncles and cousins – but ONLY if they have the same name. A few extra moment of research would have told you that the Ablett famil also includes Michael, Travis and Tuck.

While the Watson family includes Seb Ross.
