Sydney has revealed long-serving club icon Jarrad McVeigh will leave the club for an overseas opportunity, ending a 23-year spell with the red and white.
McVeigh most recently took up the VFL coaching role at the Swans for the 2025 season, moving to the job after years as an assistant to ex-coach John Longmire.
The premiership Swan moved into the coaching space after calling time on his career in 2019, hanging up the boots after 325 games.
His 17-year playing career included a role in the club's 2012 premiership side, as well as captaining the Swans for six seasons and claiming two best and fairest and an All-Australian selection.
The 40-year-old, after spending a year as the Swans' VFL coach, has now decided to leave the club in favour of international work opportunities.
“It has been an incredible journey with the Sydney Swans, and I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences I have had here,” McVeigh said in a club statement.

“Football clubs are about people and relationships, and I have been so fortunate to have worked with incredible people over the journey, from my teammates to the players I now coach, our staff, our board, and our passionate supporters.
“I've grown up at this club, and it has been an emotional decision to leave, but I am excited about what the next chapter holds for my family.”
Sydney has stated that a process to find the club's next VFL coach will get underway shortly.
The Swans' reserves managed five wins in the state league competition this year, finishing 18th on the ladder.
