Should a Showdown be played in Gather Round?

Speaking on the Six Points AFL Podcast, Mark Stevens has declared that clubs have been "stitched up" when crossing state lines to South Australia before facing Port Adelaide or Adelaide in Gather Round.

"What I would say about the fixturing though, is that there should be a Showdown during Gather Round," Stevens said.

"It'd be a waste," Harford responded.

"It wouldn't be a waste. It would only be fair. Why should Adelaide and Port get an extra home game? They should just play each other.

"A Melbourne team having to go over to Gather Round, it should be a neutral contest. They shouldn't have to play Port or Adelaide.

"And clubs have been stitched up this week."

The Crows will open the festival of footy on Thursday against Carlton, while the Power will end the weekend with a clash against St Kilda.

Harford said the South Australian teams should receive some love, even if that meant getting an extra home game.

"Every second week they travel, these teams," Harford said.

"They're going 100s and 1000s of kms every second week, let them have a bit of love."
