State League wrap-up: Round Eight

WAFL East Fremantle 7.13 (55) def. by East Perth 20.22 (142) East Perth dominated from start to finish, as they knocked off East Fremantle to the tune of 87 points. West Coast youngster Luke Partington had 28 disposals, while Jonathan Giles dominated in the ruck with 37 hit-outs. East Fremantle's George Hampson couldn't get away from the footy, racking up an impressive 40 touches. Peel Thunder 12.12 (84) def. Swan Districts 9.9 (63) Despite some controversy regarding Harley Bennell, Peel Thunder claimed an important 21-point win over Swan Districts. Fremantle draftee Sean Darcy was best on, he had 31 hit-outs, and also kicked four goals. Zac Dawson surprised many by hitting the scoreboard with a left foot snap. Jesse Turner was good for Swan Districts, kicking a goal in addition to his 31 disposals. Claremont 11.13 (79) def. by Perth 13.9 (87) Four goals from Cody Ninyette has led Perth to a tight victory over Claremont. Former Saint Clinton Jones was everywhere again, collecting 36 touches. Despite the loss, Keifer Yu played well for the Tigers. He will however be ruing his inaccuracy, kicking 2.4. Subiaco 19.13 (127) def. South Fremantle 14.4 (88) A strong first three quarters from Subiaco has helped set up a big win over South Fremantle. Lachlan Delahunty was everywhere for the Lions, collecting 31 disposals, 29 hit-outs, and seven inside 50s. Jason Maskos was one of South Fremantle's best, even though his stats may not have suggested it. VFL Essendon 17.14 (116) def. Geelong 8.7 (55) The Bombers had an excellent week against Geelong, knocking off their VFL side as well. Tom Bellchambers impressed for the Dons, kicking three goals and finishing with 26 hit-outs. Brent Stanton (25 touches) played well after being omitted. It wasn't a great day for the Cats, however Scott Selwood put in another good effort, collecting 20 disposals, and laying 12 tackles. North Ballarat 4.8 (32) def. by Williamstown 17.21 (123) It was another tough week for North Ballarat, who were thumped by Williamstown. Leigh Masters was excellent for the Gulls, kicking four goals and collecting 25 disposals. Arryn Siposs also kicked four goals. Matt Johnston again played well for North Ballarat, laying 13 tackles, to go along with 20 touches. Werribee 17.10 (112) def. Collingwood 15.11 (101) Andrew Swallow (31 disposals) has made his case for an AFL recall, helping Werribee to a tight win over Collingwood. Mitch Hibberd was also good for the Tigers, finishing with 23 disposals, and eight rebound 50s. Mason Cox impressed for the Magpies, he kicked 4.2 in a strong performance up front. Matt Scharenberg (34 touches) was once again very good. Port Melbourne 17.9 (111) def. Footscray 12.9 (81) Port Melbourne kept their perfect record in tact, kicking away from Footscray in the final quarter. Dylan Conway kicked four goals for the Borough, while Khan Haretuku had 3.1 and 21 hit-outs. For the Dogs it was Shane Biggs (27 disposals), and Mitch Honeychurch (23 disposals & two goals) that were very good. Box Hill 18.8 (116) def. Richmond 13.16 (94) Box Hill made sure they stayed on pace with Port Melbourne, knocking off Richmond in a high scoring affair. Andrew Moore kicked two goals, and had 32 touches, while Ty Vickery kicked two goals from just eight disposals. Anthony Miles made a push for recall to the seniors, kicking a goal to go along with 25 disposals. Coburg 14.5 (89) def. by Sandringham 15.10 (100) Sandringham had a six goal final quarter, to help them claim a come from behind win over Coburg. Paddy McCartin again impressed, kicking four goals. For Coburg, Hayden Blythe managed to hit the scoreboard, kicking three goals, he was one of the Lions' best. Northern Blues 14.14 (98) def. Casey 6.7 (43) Five goals to Kristian Jaksch has helped Northern Blues to a convincing win over Casey. Liam Sumner also performed well, kicking three goals. James Harmes continues to push for senior selection for the Demons, as did Alex Neal-Bullen. Angus Brayshaw suffered another head knock, this time within the first three minutes of the game. SANFL Eagles 18.11 (119) def. Glenelg 7.7 (49) Lachlan McGregor kicked four goals as the Eagles dominated Glenelg. Ex-Crow Jared Petrenko also performed well for the victors, he finished with 32 disposals, and a goal. 31 touches, and 11 marks meant Andrew Bradley was one of Glenelg's few shining lights. Sturt 11.15 (81) def. West Adelaide 8.13 (61) Despite some late opportunities, West Adelaide could not get over the line against Sturt. Patrick Wilson was very good for the victors, kicking three goals, and racking up 24 disposals. Ex-AFL player Chris Schmidt was amongst West Adelaide's best, finishing with 29 touches. NEAFL Giants 8.10 (58) def. by Aspley 19.15 (129) In what was a disappointing performance from the Giants, Aspley romped to a 71-point win. Former North Melbourne player Ben Warren kicked 6.3 for the victors, leading them to the four points. Giants rookie Zach Sproule was amongst their best, kicking three goals, and finishing with 25 disposals. Canberra 6.8 (44) def. by Sydney 25.15 (165) Kurt Tippett has made a big push for a recall to the seniors, he kicked four goals, and had 34 hit-outs, and 22 disposals. Jordan Dawson was also excellent, recording 38 disposals and kicking two goals. On what was a glum day for Canberra, Jordan Harper performed well, he had 30 disposals, and 11 tackles. Sydney Uni 18.22 (130) def. Southport 5.13 (43) Sydney Uni have maintained their unbeaten record, thrashing Southport on the weekend. Former Sydney Swan Xavier Richards continued his good form, kicking three goals. Jordan Keras was again in the best for Southport, collecting an impressive 33 disposals for the Sharks. Redland 17.15 (117) def. Brisbane 16.8 (104) Despite strong performances from Brisbane's Ryan Bastinac (32 disposals), and Matt Hammelmann (5 goals), the Lions could not get over the line against Redland, Hayden Bertoli-Simmonds had 25 touches for the victors, while Aaron Christensen kicked four goals. NT Thunder 13.12 (90) def. Gold Coast 9.6 (60) The Thunder were back to their winning ways at home, knocking off Gold Coast by 30 points. Adam Sambono (5 goals) and Darren Ewing (3 goals) were again potent up forward for the Northern Territory. Tom Nicholls was one of the Suns' best, while Mitch Hallahan was also good despite the loss.
