Fremantle duo Caleb Serong and Hayden Young's monster performances in Saturday's elimination final weren't enough to will the club over the line against Gold Coast.

Serong (35 possessions, 13 clearances and 11 inside 50s) and Young (28 disposals, seven clearances and six inside 50s) were the two highest-rated players throughout the first week of the AFL finals.

Serong (25.1) and Young (24.1) reigned supreme in terms of ratings, but there's no doubt the duo would swap out the accolade to be playing next weekend.

The Dockers pair weren't the only Western Australian players, with Andrew Brayshaw (19.6), Luke Jackson (17.9) and Neil Erasmus (17.5) also featuring inside the top 20.

Adelaide's Riley Thilthorpe (21.4) featured in the top five, while Giants quartet Kieren Briggs (20.2), Josh Kelly (19.8), Tom Green (19.7) and Finn Callaghan (19.2) were also prominent in their respective losses.

Geelong stars Max Holmes (22.9) and Tom Stewart (19.2) were recognised for their efforts in the ratings, as well as after the game, with the Cats progressing to another preliminary final.

Hawthorn's Jai Newcombe is quickly becoming "Mr. September" after being the standout performer in Saturday's elimination win over the Giants.

Newcombe amassed 32 touches, 12 clearances and a goal as the best on-field.

Gold Coast defensive pairing Sam Collins (17.6) and Bodhi Uwland (17.2) were immense against the Dockers, curbing the hosts' forward thrusts in front of a hostile crowd.

Surprisingly, Cats young gun Ollie Dempsey (14.5) ranked 38th for the weekend after his three-goal, 25-possession outing.

Collingwood matchwinner Jordan De Goey (13.4) came in at 50 with 26 disposals, seven tackles, six clearances and a goal.

His teammate and captain, Darcy Moore (11.5), didn't receive the praise in the ratings that he did on the occasion. Moore, 64th, had 13 disposals but nine intercept marks, halting Adelaide's scoring capacity by hindering Darcy Fogarty and Taylor Walker.
