Ed Richards is a test to play Western Bulldogs' next fixture against Geelong.
The club has confirmed that the star midfielder did not suffer any serious bone damage, but they will need to wait for swelling to subside before a call is made on his availability.
He limped from the ground in the Dogs' loss to Hawthorn, casting fears of a longer term injury, just a week after there was concern that a knee injury could sideline him for an extended period.
He has become a central piece of the Dogs midfield in the last 12 months with his speed, averaging 25 disposals this year.
Whether or not he plays against Geelong or misses, the short-term nature of the injury is more good news for the Dogs - whose midfield was soundly beaten against Hawthorn - after this masthead confirmed earlier on Sunday Tom Liberatore is on track to play this week.
It comes despite initial beliefs he would miss two to three weeks with his hamstring injury.
With Liberatore and ruck Tim English missing against Hawthorn, the Dogs were exposed.
They will be looking to bounce back against Geelong, after starting the season with four consecutive wins.
