Hawthorn will welcome the return of half-back flanker Changkuoth Jiath for Saturday's clash with St Kilda.

Jiath was ruled out of his side's Round 19 matchup with North Melbourne last Thursday due to a short-term knee injury, which will now only last the one week.

His return comes as veteran midfielder Liam Shiels will miss at least one game after suffering a concussion over the weekend.

Shiels has entered the AFL's concussions protocols following a head knock sustained in his side's 56-point win over the Northern Bullants.

If available after the required 12-day period, Shiels will be available for Hawthorn's Round 21 bout with the Gold Coast Suns.

Meanwhile, second-year Hawk Connor Downie has been put on ice for the rest of the year after re-injuring his hamstring.

Downie has been limited in his availability to feature at either AFL or VFL level this year due to the setback, having managed just five games in the second tier this season.

The 20-year-old becomes the seventh Hawk to be ruled out for the remainder of the season, following setbacks to Chad Wingard (hamstring/finger), Sam Frost (knee), James Worpel (shoulder), Lachlan Bramble (back), Tyler Brockman (shoulder) and Seamus Mitchell (ankle).

The Hawks will travel to Marvel Stadium on Saturday to face the Saints, with the match commencing at 4:35pm (AEST).
