New Essendon recruit Jake Stringer has hit the ground running as he aims to impress his new teammates following an indifferent 2017 season and end to life as a Bulldog.

The 2016 premiership player, who was often criticised this year for his effort, has lost 4kg, according to the Heradld Sun, as he begins life as an Essendon player.

Stringer listed in at 92kg for the 2017 season, but is now reportedly weighing 88kg as Essendon begins its pre-season campaign.

The move is part of preparation for more midfield time, after five seasons playing almost exclusively as a forward at the Western Bulldogs.

Stringer kicked 160 goals in 89 games for the Bulldogs before securing his move to Essendon in exchange for picks 25 and 30.
