Fremantle rookie Murphy Reid became just the fifth player this year to record at least 15 score involvements in a single game, putting in one of the best performances by any first-year player on Saturday against West Coast.

Resuming his role as a small forward in Justin Longmuir's side for the Western Derby, Reid was an instrumental conduit in the club's chain to goal.

From his 23 disposals, 15 led to scores, seeing almost two-thirds of every possession Reid collected help add to the Dockers' total.

Even Jeremy Cameron's haul of 11 goals and 14 score involvements wasn't enough to beat Reid's total for Round 20.

Reid booted a major himself and assisted a further three to remind onlookers of his standing as one of the leading contenders for ths year's Rising Star Award.

Coach Justin Longmuir, who admitted he hadn't given much thought to the conversation, said Reid should be in the front seat for the title.

"I don't really get caught up in predicting how first-year players are going to play, but from day one he's shown he can compete at the level. Even at training, he never took a backwards step in the pre-season," the Dockers coach said after his side's 49-point win over the Eagles.

"He's a good student of the game. He comes in and gets his feedback from the coaches, is always looking for areas to improve on.

"Like I've said all year, his composure with the ball, he's a good decision maker. A lot of the times he touched it today ended up in a score. He had 15 score involvements, it's the sign of a pretty good game.

"I don't get caught up in (the Rising Star conversation), but if I was picking it, I'd pick him. I think if you looked at consistency across the year, he would have been the most consistent first-year player.

"I probably haven't watched the other first-year players as much as the guys picking the award."

Western Bulldogs ruckman Tim English holds the 2025 record for most score involvements in a game, amassing 17 as the Dogs piled on 31 scoring shots against Port Adelaide in Ballarat in May.

Reid is one of four players to be next best on 15, with Noah Anderson, Ned Long and Toby Greene the others.

The Fremantle forward is averaging 5.6 score involvements per game in his maiden campaign, which is equal with the likes of Patrick Cripps, Dylan Moore and Jack Ginnivan, and the most of any first-year player.
