Tim Watson went on SEN Breakfast this morning and pronounced that heโ€™d been told: โ€œthat Scott Burns will be the next coach of Adelaide.โ€

The markets have reacted, and Burns is now the odds-on favourite to become the top dog in the city of churches. Thatโ€™s despite the four-person panel charged with selecting Don Pykeโ€™s successor having not yet convened.

Another SEN presenter, Andy Maher, has also said that you can โ€œlock it inโ€ that Burns will be in the box in Adelaide next year.

This conjecture seems likely, considering the other favourite, Essendonโ€™s Ben Rutten has pulled out of the running to stay in Melbourne.

Burns, who played 256 games for Collingwood in the 90โ€™s, has been an assistant coach for the Pies, Eagles and Hawks.  In 2011 he was apparently positioned to take over at the Crows before the club settled on Brenton Sanderson.
