Richmond coach Adem Yze is confident star midfielder Tim Taranto won't miss further action with a calf injury that saw him withdrawn from Sunday's side to face Collingwood.

Taranto had his ailment assessed days prior to the Round 20 encounter, with the 2023 Jack Dyer Medal winner getting through his preparations prior to game day.

The ex-Giant underwent further testing in the lead-up to the opening bounce, with a minor concern forcing him to report "awareness" of a calf issue, and Richmond to make a late change.

Tactical sub Luke Trainor was promoted to the starting side 20 mins before the game against the Magpies got underway, with rookie Jasper Alger brought into the side as the sub.

Speaking after his side's six-goal loss to the ladder leaders, Yze provided insight into the extent of Taranto's calf concern.

"He got through yesterday, he got through the captain's run. He was obviously still a risk of getting through the warmup and testing it today," the Tigers coach said.

"Our fitness staff wanted him to hit high speed today, and he just felt a little bit of awareness today.

"To his credit, he wanted to play. We've still got a month of footy, and he's too important to us. We didn't want to send him out there and make the injury worse.

"So, hopefully, by doing what we did today, he shouldn't miss anything other than today."

Richmond have a six-day turnaround to their trip to Gold Coast to face the Suns, placing Taranto's playing prospects in a race against the clock.

The Tigers also had an injury concern with key defender Ben Miller during their clash with the Magpies, however the tall backman was able to play out the game.

Richmond could have Seth Campbell back for their clash with the Suns as the young forward looks to exit concussion protocols, while spearhead Tom Lynch is a further week away after serving the fourth match of his five-game suspension this weekend.

Following their venture to Queensland, Richmond will face St Kilda, North Melbourne and Geelong before drawing curtains on their 2025 campaign.
