Essendon has revealed its 2026 coaching structure, with a number of new additions bolstering Brad Scott's coaching panel.

Former director and board member Dean Solomon's appointment as an assistant coach has been locked in, with the premiership Bomber taking charge of the club's defence.

Cam Roberts will continue as the forwards coach for a second season, while Ben Jacobs has become the midfield coach after looking after the defenders in 2025. Brent Stanton will remain in charge of stoppages after he returned to the club as a coach in 2021.

Toby McLean also joins Scott's coaching team in the development space, partnering with Michael Hurley, who has worked in development at the Bombers for a number of years.

Cameron Joyce remains in charge at VFL level, while James Polkinghorne will also stay put as the Bombers' Development, VFL and Pathways Manager.

After recently retiring, Todd Goldstein will work as ruck coach in a part-time capacity. David Rath will continue in the role as coaching innovation and game strategy manager after joining the Bombers in 2024.

Head of footy Daniel McPherson said the club was confident it has the right coaching mix to succeed in 2026.

“We are really pleased with the balance of our coaching group. With the addition of Dean Solomon, we have brought in important coaching experience which will be a crucial addition to our match-day operations. Dean brings a competitive edge and high-level football IQ that will complement our coaching group,” McPherson said.

"Significantly, we continue to invest heavily in the Development space. This focus caters for every player on our list, but is also critical given our current list demographic, ensuring our emerging players are ready for senior football sooner.
