Sydney ruckman Brodie Grundy has been ruled out of the club's upcoming clash against Geelong after reporting delayed concussion symptoms.

Grundy will enter protocols that could curtail his chances of receiving a third All-Australian blazer after an epic second half of the season.

The former Pie and Demon passed a Head Injury Assessment (HIA) following a marking contest during Saturday's stirring two-point win over Brisbane at the Gabba. Swans coach Dean Cox revealed the news on SEN.

"He obviously passed his HIA but then wasn't well yesterday," Cox said.

"So, he'll be into concussion protocols, which will mean he won't be available this weekend. He might be back for that (for the Eagles game in Round 24).

"I think the thing we need to do with Brodie is to just assess day-to-day, which is what we have done with Hayden McLean. He (McLean) came back after the 12-day protocol, and Tom McCartin was a week earlier.

"We'll just assess it as it plays out."

Grundy has emerged as former teammate and Melbourne champion Max Gawn's rival for the All-Australian nod.

The 31-year-old has been in near career-best form, showcasing his incredible ruck work and follow-up that earned him All-Australian blazers in 2018 and 2019 at Collingwood.

According to WheeloRatings, Grundy has recorded an average of 14.72 player rating points, sitting marginally behind Gawn's 15.19. It places him inside the top 25 players in the competition.
