Geelong speedster Steven Motlop is now all but certain to leave the Cattery and the race for his services is believed to be down to two.

Motlop is set to choose between Adelaide and Port Adelaide as his new destination, after eight seasons with the Cats.

Gold Coast was also in the running for the 26-year-old after touring the club's facilities last week, however, is believed to be out of the race.

The Crows are believed to have offered Motlop a lucrative deal worth around $600,000 per season, while the Power have also tabled an offer it hopes will lure the speedster to South Australia.

"He'll go through his thinking with his family in the next 24 hours. We're in the conversation and comfortable with our pitch," Port Adelaide football boss Chris Davies told AFL Trade Radio on Friday morning.

Motlop's decision could have a significant bearing on Geelong's fortunes this trade period.

Depending on the compensation the Cats receive for losing Motlop as a free agent, Geelong could use the draft pick to help the club re-enter the race for Jack Watts or even Jake Stringer.

Geelong's compensation pick will be dependent on Motlop's salary and length of contract with his new club.

His is expected to yield a compensation pick in either the late first round or early second round.

The Cats have stated they intend to go to the draft with their first pick rather than trade it, making the Watts deal difficult at the moment, given Melbourne is demanding an early second round pick. However, should the Cats receive a similar pick as expected for losing Motlop, they could use it to snare Watts, while still keeping their first pick in the draft.
