Collingwood premiership defender Nathan Murphy has officially joined the club's VFL coaching group.
Murphy will assist new coach Matthew Lokan in the reserves side, taking care of the backline as assistant coach.
The 26-year-old, who retired after Collingwood's 2023 Grand Final triumph, also officially rejoined the Pies as a development coach this season, but has been with the club since he hung up the boots.
Murphy has been working closely with the likes of former teammates Reef McInnes and Joel Cochran, providing important defensive tidbits.
He has worked in the space of opposition analysis and development work in the past year, and his continued part of that role while increasing his responsibility in the VFL program.
"I love my coaching so it's a good chance for me to develop that as well," Murphy said shortly after his retirement.
"The relief probably came when the panel retired me, I think deep down I knew it was the right thing for me.
"It's been so nice, the amount of celebrations you'd think I'm a 200 game player. It's carried on for a bit and I've carried on for a bit."
Murphy was medically retired from the game following his nasty concussion during the 2023 decider.
He played 57 games for the Pies after he was drafted with Pick 39 in the 2017 draft.
