West Coast premiership player Adam Selwood has passed away at the age of 41, just over three months after his twin brother Troy died.

A statement from the Selwood Family confirmed Adam's passing on Saturday, with the ex-Eagle remembered as a loving father, husband, brother and son.

"We are heartbroken by the passing of Adam earlier today. Words cannot express the grief and sadness we feel," the statement attributed to Adam's wife, Fiona, read.

"Adam was a loving husband, and an incredible father to Lenny and Billie. We are devastated to lose such a wonderful husband, father, son and brother.

"We will miss Adam deeplyโ€”his spirit, his kindness, and the joy he brought to every room. His determination, the lessons he shared, and his infectious personality will stay with us always. Adam had a unique ability to make people feel special, and our family was lucky to experience that every day.

"We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this difficult time."

Selwood played 187 games for West Coast, with his career beginning in 2003 after he was drafted out of Bendigo the year prior.

He would cement his place in John Worsfold's side by 2005 and played in the Eagles' losing grand final that year. He would play 26 games for West Coast the following year on the way to winning the 2006 premiership.

Selwood retired from the AFL in 2013, ending his 11-year career with the Western Australian club.

Post-career, Selwood continued his time with the Eagles, taking on a coaching role with the club before being appointed head of West Coast's women's program. He would leave the Eagles at the end of 2020 after 18 years in Perth.

Adam's brother Troy passed away on February 4 of this year, with the twin brothers the older siblings to ex-Geelong captain Joel and former Eagle and Cat Scott.
