The Victorian Police have been referred a vandalism case at the Essendon Football Club after its oval was tarnished and burnt with petrol.

The vandals attempted to leave a message amid the Bombers' disappointing start to the season, including targeting the coaching staff.

It is understood the damage could be a five-figure amount.

"Police are investigating criminal damage to the grounds of a sports oval on Watsons Drive near Melbourne Airport reported on 7 April," a police statement read.

"The estimated damage is $10,000. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
Essendon is currently undergoing its own investigation via its CCTV cameras.

It is the second act of its kind in recent days, with a Richmond cafe, 7 Grams, playing host to a large 'Sack Voss' message painted on the adjoining building.

The fresh graffiti, reported by the Herald Sun, was in the wake of Carlton's dramatic and demoralising Good Friday loss to North Melbourne.

Coach Michael Voss has been fending off immense pressure and scrutiny amid a 1-3 start, which has included multiple second-half fadeouts.

The Blues and the Bombers sit in the bottom four of the competition.

Carlton kicks off Gather Round on Thursday with a clash against Adelaide, while Essendon will hope to turn its fortunes around against Melbourne on Saturday.
