AFL players could face potential bans if they catch COVID-19 from casual sex, as the league releases daily guidelines for players to follow.

The AFL has clarified that one-night stands are allowed but a series of hook-ups is understood to be off the table.

According to the official guidelines, players are only allowed to see "a person they are in an intimate relationship with", but itย is yet to be determined how this will be enforced.

On Monday, the AFL released a 40-page document that briefs how the 2020 season will go ahead.

The document states that players have been told to stay home unless absolutely necessary, with buying food, visiting a partner or picking up children among the included reasons.

Social visits are also banned with players warned not to"let any social visitors into your home," which also included their garage and yard.

Players will also be tested twice a week for COVID-19, including 24 hours before a match.

"The protocols include a process for investigating breaches, and particular sanctions for different types and levels of breach," according to the official guidelines.

"Breaches of protocols jeopardise your own health, the health of your teammates and opponents, and the health of club staff, as well as jeopardising the continuation of the competition in 2020."

The AFL season is set to resume on June 11.
