The Collingwood Football Club has reportedly fielded offers from numerous candidates to perform the role of head coach next season, according to SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund.
Although St Kilda legend Robert Harvey is currently fulfilling the role on an interim basis, his stint in the position is predicted to end once the final siren sounds on the Magpies' season this weekend.
Speaking on Saturday afternoon, Edmund suggested that the club had left no stone unturned in their efforts to fill Nathan Buckley's seat on a permanent basis.
โThe net has been cast really wide [at Collingwood],โ the reporter told said on SENโs Crunch Time.
โDon Pyke is right up there as well from what you hear, but theyโre keen for someone to go on the journey with them."
Edmund also suggested that the club could be in a position to hire a candidate that may not necessarily have the most illustrious credentials.
โPerhaps itโs someone that doesnโt have the high-profile standing of some of the other guys weโve spoken about," he said.
Collingwood are also yet to finalise their off-field department ahead of the off-season, however, a brother of an Essendon champion is reportedly on the Pies' radar.
โList management wise, they still donโt have (a list manager) and thereโs been all sort of rumours about Brad Lloyd (taking the role) and thatโs been kicked down the road a bit," Edmund concluded.
Despite Pyke's name being raised, fellow SEN journalist Gerard Whateley was of the view that a former Brisbane Lion - and the current favourite with bookmakers - was leading the race for the role.
โCraig McRae is the man of the last 24 hours,โ he said.
โJordan Lewis felt last night ย that heโs clearly the front-runner for the job from what heโs heard around those circles at Hawthorn and he was really excited about that prospect.โ
Collingwood will complete their 2021 campaign against Essendon on Sunday afternoon at an empty MCG.
Should the Pies manage to pull off an upset victory, their efforts could see the Dons miss out on the September action.
