The best part about entering new footy season is that it's a fresh slate - every club starts from zero.

Optimism is high as fans relish in the prospect of their club making some form of improvement on last year, whether that's contending for a premiership, returning to September action, or seeing young players blossom into genuine superstars to push a rebuild forward.

Whether they've just won back-to-back premierships or are coming off a one-win campaign, each club has something to look forward to next year.

So, here's one thing your favourite club should be excited about entering the new year.

While prized Pick 1 selection Willem Duursma will likely begin his AFL career off half-back, the rangy midfielder will be a dynamic force alongside the explosive Harley Reid in 2026.

Long term, Duursma is an inside midfielder who can break away from traffic and use the ball with efficiency. On more than one occasion this year, Duursma pushed forward late for the Gippsland Power to decide a game. He's a perfect fit for the Eagles, and most importantly, is ready-made.

Seeing that connection develop on field, with ideally more than one win to boot, will be an exciting experience for the Eagles diehard fans who have remained consistently loyal during the club's lowest era.
