Former Essendon skipper Zach Merrett has seen his side ridiculed online, by his own wife, no less.
During Essendon's loss to the Western Bulldogs on Sunday night, Merrett's wife Alexandra posted a video of herself at Melbourne dining institution, Gimlet, mocking the Bombers' performance in the process.
A caption designed to rub salt in the wounds of the club that now infamously would not grant her husband's trade request, read as follows:
"When your husbands (sic) team is losing by 50 points at half time so you go to Gimlet instead."

The since-deleted post has taken the sheen off the limited progress Merrett's side appeared to make in the match, giving a greater account of themselves than was expected. The Bombers managed to stem the bleeding after a torrid first quarter, restricting the Bulldogs to under 100 points in the process.
Not that Mrs. Merrett was there to see it.

It's sure to send tensions sky high at the Hangar, where reparations between Merrett and the club had been made since his high-profile trade request took the league by storm, last year. The behaviour is clearly not very edifying, and detracts from the necessary inroads the men in red and black appear to be making.
