Fremantle livewire and excitement machine Patrick Voss said he had no idea about the incident regarding Harrison Petty four years ago, while also admitting he stepped over the line.
Voss was handed a $1000 fine for his taunting of Petty, including a crybaby gesture and ruffling his head, which has now been deemed by the AFL as a free kick.
"…from the bottom of my heart, I honestly had no context whatsoever around the whole situation," Voss said on Triple M.
"As soon as I got some context around it, at the end of the game, I reached out to Harry and just let him know there was nothing sinister behind it at all. And yeah, he was really good about it, so I'm glad that I was able to reach out to him and he was able to accept my apology."
Petty was involved in two incidents during Brisbane clashes in 2022 and 2024, whereby Dayne Zorko made comment regarding a family member, drawing tears from the Demons defender.
Noah Answerth backed up that effort by producing the crybaby taunt, similar to what Voss did on Saturday.
"Yeah, 100% and if I had my time again, there's no way in the world I'd go down that path. And that's obviously where I went wrong.
"And obviously I put my hand up and say, I've got it wrong. But like so I honestly, yeah, I didn't even hear rumors, nothing like that. I was obviously referring to the time that he did end up crying in Brisbane, but no idea why he was crying."
Voss explained how the Dockers have been supportive of his energy and combativeness, but acknowledged that he walked over the "tightrope".
"On Sunday I rang JL (coach Justin Longmuir) first. It just obviously didn't sit too well with me after a win when everyone's talking about you and something you did on the footy field instead of a what was a great team performance," he added.
"So, yeah, that was the main thing for me. The club's been unbelievable this week in terms of reinforcing to me that they still want me to bring my competitive edge and still, like you say, walk the tightrope. I obviously stepped over the mark on the weekend…I've put my hand up and I own and I've sort of apologised to them in that sense."
