Carlton captain Marc Murphy has won his second John Nicholls Medal after another impressive season leading the side's midfield brigade.

Murphy finished with 174 votes and just edged out Sam Docherty (169 votes) and Matthew Kruezer (164) in a very close finish.

The 30-year-old played every game for the Blues in 2017, and finished with a career-high in average disposals (29.8 per game).

“Marc once again led from the front in 2017, and is a deserving winner of his second John Nicholls Medal,” Blues coach Brendon Bolton told carltonfc.com.au.

“As captain, Marc sets an outstanding example to his teammates. The way he has continued to develop as a leader whilst actively engaging in a new football program over the past two seasons shows his enormous character and he has played an integral role in ensuring players and coaches are aligned at all times.”

“His ability to guide and mentor our younger players whilst performing at a consistently high level is a credit to him and demonstrates his commitment to driving values and standards on and off the field.”

Murphy was also the recipient of the MVP Award voted on by the fans, but had to share the honour with Docherty, as the pair both received 314 votes each.

Despite missing out on the best and fairest medal by just 10 votes, Kreuzer took home a number of other awards, including the Inner Blue Ruthless Award, the Spirit of Carlton Award, and the William A. Cook Trophy.

In other awards on the night, Sam Petrevski-Seton was voted as the club's Best First Year Player, while outgoing fan favourite Dennis Armfield took out the Best Clubman Award.
