Former Herald Sun Chief Football writer, Mike Sheahan, has revealed his top 25 players in the competition following the 2017 season.

As expected, Richmond's Dustin Martin took out the No.1 spot, while Patrick Dangerfield and Alex Rance rounded out the top three.

Martin enjoyed one of the best seasons on record in 2017, winning the AFL Players’ Association MVP, the AFL Coaches Association Player of the year, the Gary Ayres Award for the best player in the finals series and he earned All-Australian selection.

The 26-year-old also won the game’s most prestigious honour, the Brownlow Medal with a record 36 votes and the Norm Smith Medal on Grand Final day to go along with his premiership medallion.

The former No.4 draft pick averaged 29.7 disposals for the year and was ranked No.1 in the league for inside 50s, centre clearances and score involvements and was second for contested possessions and metres gained.
