Melbourne defender Judd McVee's reported decision to halt contract talks with the club has drawn speculation concerning his future at the Demons.
McVee hails from Western Australia and is without a deal beyond 2025, despite the Victorian club putting forward an offer to retain him.
"He's had a contract on the table since last year; that's always a bit of a worry," Glenn McFarlane said on Fox Footy's Midweek Tackle.
"He's a WA boy (who) hasn't re-signed, but he's also not fielding rival offers โ so he's just sitting there waiting, trying to work out what he's doing.
"He's keen to play as a bit more of an aggressive defender, a bit further up the ground. That's what he's keen to do.
"I reckon it's a watch-this-space at the moment. He's not entertaining offers, but he's also not signing that contract that's been sitting there for so long."
Since debuting in 2023, McVee has locked down a defensive position under Simon Goodwin.
The 21-year-old was plucked from East Fremantle in the WAFL as a rookie ahead of the 2022 season, and has played 58 games in the red and blue.
McVee has been tasked with curbing some of the league's most prominent small forwards, including Izak Rankine, who got hold of him last week with a five-goal outing.
Demons coach Simon Goodwin spoke on the defender's contract situation.
"We're really confident with Judd (staying)," Goodwin said.
"He's a really important player to us, and he's taking some time to work through that, which we always knew at the start of the season was going to be the case.
"We've been in constant dialogue with his management, and Judd, and we're really comfortable where all that sits.
"It'll get done in the not-too-distant future."
