Melbourne's new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Paul Guerra has declared that coach Simon Goodwin will remain in the hot seat despite rumours that his job is in jeopardy.
Goodwin and the Demons have slowly turned their 0-5 start to the season, winning their past two clashes against Fremantle and Richmond.
Amid uncertainty around star players Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver, compounded by the unease at board level, Guerra, who was announced as Gary Pert's replacement on Monday, will attempt to bring stability to the club. seat
That starts with giving the 2021 premiership coach everything he needs to succeed.
"I spoke to Simon at quarter to seven this morning, and he was already at Casey Fields," Guerra said onย Channel 9's Footy Classified.
"I had a good conversation with Simon. I think we need to be respectful of Simon Goodwin.
"Simon Goodwin won a premiership for this club as coach. He won two premierships as a player.
"My conversation with Simon was around what support do you need to make sure we can win another two, three, four or five flags before you finish up at the Melbourne Football club."
Rumours began circulating that Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge would make the switch from the Whitten Oval to Casey Fields as season's end, which would ultimately put Goodwin out of a job.
Beveridge debunked those rumours, and Goodwin has returned to impressive coaching form, and looks more than likely to see out his contract that runs for another 18 months.
Guerra made it clear about his intentions at Melbourne for on and off the field, and is confident he can turn the club into the powerhouse it once was.
"It's pretty clear we want to be an elite off the field. We want to be elite on the field in both the men's and the women's competition," Guerra said.
"We need a home for the Melbourne Football Club where we can have our high-performance facilities, where we can welcome our fans, members and sponsors and a place where past players are happy to come back to as well.
"We want Melbourne to have a real home that everybody can enjoy, but we can get elite performance out of it.
"I'm really clear around values. I think the football club has a wonderful set of values. I can bind to those, and I'm sure everyone in the organisation does
"I'm also really clear on strategy. If you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there. Let's be really clear around where we're going. The values then lead to a culture."
Goodwin has been at the club since 2017, when he took over from Paul Roos.
After 189 games at the helm, Goodwin has won 106 contests, including the drought-breaking premiership in 2021.
The Demons will attempt to notch a third consecutive victory against West Coast on Saturday night.
