Western Bulldogs' clash with Essendon on Sunday night is set to be played with an open roof at Marvel Stadium.

The league forecast it would be a move they would look at this season when conditions suited and with the weather clear today, Channel 7's Mitch Cleary is reporting that the match will be played outdoors.

Western Bulldogs are unbackable favourites against Essendon, which has struggled to defend the ground or find any momentum to start the season.

The Dogs have so far beaten Brisbane, GWS and Adelaide in 2026, with an improved defence complementing a powerful midfield and potent forward line.

Essendon, meanwhile, has lost to Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and North Melbourne.

The last two games between the sides have both produced margins in excess of 90 points, with the Dogs looking to have taken a step forward in the off-season and the Bombers regressing, cuing fears of a blowout margin.

Essendon has lost 16 games in a row, dating back to May last year, with pressure growing on the Bombers to show some improvement for a restless supporter base.
