Brisbane co-captain Harris Andrews has been offered a three-game ban by the AFL tribunal.

The 29-year-old's swinging arm hit which collected Artie Jones high was graded as careless, with the impact severe, resulting in the ban.

The Lions and Andrews will have the option and contest the sanction.

Zac Bailey and Darcy Gardiner have also been handed suspensions, while Hugh McCluggage is set to miss a week with a calf injury which prevented him from playing out Saturday night's game.

Bailey was slapped with a ban due to an intentional low-impact hit on Western Bulldogs debutant Michael Sellwood.

Gardiner's ban was a result of a last quarter strike on Aaron Naughton, graded careless, medium impact and high contact.

The absences compound the Lions' five-point Round 0 loss to the Western Bulldogs, with the visitors charging over the top of the hosts at the Gabba.

Gardiner and Andrews missing Round 1's clash with a Sydney side spearheaded by Charlie Curnow would be a nightmare for the Lions.

Curnow, Logan McDonald and Joel Amartey combined for seven goals in an Opening Round victory over Carlton.

Jack Payne and Tom Doedee remain sidelined with injury, leaving the Lions short on size, though smaller defender Noah Answerth played a VFL practice match on the weekend.
