Following a 25-point win over Gold Coast, Brisbane Lions assistant coach Cameron Bruce confirms the team has a "tough selection" ahead.

Despite referring to the process ahead of him as a headache, Bruce was resoundingly positive at the post-match press conference as he discussed the potential line-up for the 2026 season.

Noah Answerth was flagged as in line for selection with Bruce referring to him as an "important negating defender" and reassuring reporters that Answerth had "done enough to be in contention".

Lincoln McCarthy and Keidean Coleman were also mentioned, with Bruce praising them as versatile players.

"To have players being flexible like that... That's a real strength of ours," Bruce said.

"It gives us great opportunities going forward and gives them great opportunities to cement themselves on a great side."

Bruce also confirmed that Cam Rayner will be able to return for Round 0.

"He's been building up for quite a while, and he'll be ready to go," Bruce said.

Bruce's confidence didn't waver when asked about Darcy Wilmot's wellbeing after the player's heavy collision with Gold Coast's Jy Farrar. Bruce reassured reporters that Wilmot was ok, describing him as a "pretty tough player."

Despite having some difficult decisions ahead, it seems safe to say that the Brisbane Lions are confident heading into this season, with Bruce happily describing his players as "match hardened and ready to go."

Brisbane opens its 2026 season against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday, March 7, at the Gabba.
