Two teams eager to bounce back from disappointing losses have had to leave the ground and head for the locker rooms after poor weather halted Greater Western Sydney and St Kilda's Round 2 match.

The fixture, which was scheduled to start at 4:15pm AEDT was delayed after lightning struck within 10km of ENGIE Stadium.

Officials were forced to delay the match by 30 minutes with that being extended to at least 5:05pm as more lightning struck.

The Giants will be hoping to bounce back from their Round 1 81-point defeat to the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Saints, who splashed their cash during last year's trade period have started the season 0-2 after close losses to Collingwood and Melbourne.
