AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan has confirmed Ali Fahour has resigned from his position as AFL diversity manager.

McLachlan confirmed Grant Williams has been appointed as the interim AFL multicultural manager, and that Fahour will not come back to work for the AFL in another role.

Fahour was suspended for 14 weeks after striking an opponent in a Northern Football League match last weekend, which saw him banned for life after going over the 16-week suspension threshold.

โ€œIโ€™m not going to talk to (the specific incident) but as soon as I saw it, it was an incident that just canโ€™t be tolerated,โ€ McLachlan said in a statement to media on Thursday.

โ€œIt was clear that it was an act that we want eradicated from our game.
