Essendon Bombers midfielder Nic Martin has reportedly undergone scans on his knee as his recovery from an ACL injury faces a devastating setback.
According to AFL Media's Cal Twomey, Nic Martin slipped while training at the Bombers' facilities on last week, sparking fresh concerns for his recently reconstructed knee.
It comes after Martin had been "impressing in his recovery", with the 24-year-old to meet with his surgeon to determine the next steps in his return to football.
However, Essendon are remaining hopeful on Martin until more details are known, with the young star to have an arthroscope in coming days to assess the damage of the incident.
"Nic Martin has undergone scans on his reconstructed knee after slipping at training last week," the club said in a statement.
"He will consult with his surgeon in the coming days to determine the best course of action.
"The club will provide an update once Nic has met with the surgeon and the matter has been reviewed by our medical and high-performance team."

Martin injured his knee against Richmond in Round 18, with the significant issue meaning he was already set to miss the start of next season. He has played 83 games for the Bombers since debuting in 2022.
Similarly, Nick Bryan, Lewis Hayes and Thomas Edwards are also returning from ACL surgeries at the Bombers over pre-season as the toll of the Bombers injury-riddled 2025 campaign continue to haunt them.
More to come...
