Hawthorn midfield-forward Sam Butler has signed a new two-year deal with the Hawks, extending till 2027.
After strong interest from the West Coast Eagles, Butler has knocked back their offer and has decided to remain with the Hawks.
Butler worked his way back into the AFL side in Round 13 this season after breaking his leg playing for Box Hill in the VFL in 2024.
The small forward played six matches this season, including two finals wins, as he looks to cement himself in the Hawks' best 23 for next season.
Hawthorn list manager Mark McKenzie praised Butler for his ability to return to the form he did this year.
“The intensity and tackling pressure that Butsy injects into our side was highlighted on the big stage through September, and we can't wait to see more of these moments from him in the brown and gold into the future,” McKenzie said.
“Butsy's injury adversity has been well-documented over the past 12-18 months, and for him to come out the other side is a credit to his resilience and determination.
“Given his elite endurance and competitiveness, we're excited about Butsy's ability to be a versatile asset for us through the midfield and in attack for many years to come.”
Butler has played 25 games for Hawthorn since being drafted out of Lake Wendouree in 2021.
