Essendon defender Michael Hurley has famously grown one of the more impressive beards you will see during his year off from playing football.

But now, Hurley has announced that he will shave off his beard, all in the name of charity.

The 26-year-old will aim to raise $20,000 for the MAD Foundation, before shaving his beard off.

The MAD Foundation helps disabled and disadvantaged children across Australia, by providing funding for support equipment and services they otherwise would not be able to afford.

“Looking forward to the beard coming off and raising some money for such an amazing charity!” the Bombers' star wrote on Instagram.

It is not the first time he has raised money for the MAD Foundation, with Hurley raising over $17,000 when he shaved off his dreadlocks in 2015.
