Hawthorn's insane interest in West Coast wunderkind Harley Reid cannot be understated.
Reid recently signed a two-year extension at the Eagles, locking him up until the end of 2028, shooing away rival clubs from Victoria.
However, the Hawks, who were one of the clubs coming hard for the former Pick 1, were aggressive in their strategy of luring the Tongala product.
Hawthorn's offer was around 11 years in length (until the end of 2036), and roughly $1.7 million, according to AFL Media's Cal Twomey, which would've surpassed any current contract in the competition.
Melbourne's Kysaiah Pickett is locked away at the Demons until the end of 2034, while Gold Coast's Mac Andrew has an ability to hit a trigger that would reach the same season.
"Throughout that period, we spoke about Hawthorn's interest in him, and I said they were obsessed," Twomey said on Gettable.
"There some details about this interest from them that I want to share.
"We can say they had an 11-year deal on the table for Harley Reid worth around the $1.7 (million) mark, I understand.
"Add next year's CBA deal and that ends up being around $18 mil, $19 mil or even $20 million mark.
"That gets to the biggest deal ever in football by some way.
"Harley Reid knew that, he saw that, he considered it, and he re-signed with the Eagles for two more years, no strings attached.
"It just shows how keen the Hawks were to get this guy to Waverley."
