Hawthorn will be looking to atone for their poor performance last week as they look to improve their wretched record against Geelong.

The Hawks were thumped by Port Adelaide in Gather Round and will be looking to respond in the traditional Easter Monday clash.

Famously, since the 2008 premiership triumph over the Cats, Hawthorn has struggled against their arch rivals, losing their past three encounters as well as 10 of 13 matches hosted in the marquee timeslot.

With the Monday game, a few Hawks are still in contention to be brought back into the side, who are yet to find the consistency that saw them storm into finals contention last year.

Connor MacDonald is in line to return after missing games with an ankle injury, while Jack Scrimshaw is expected to face Geelong after serving his three-game suspension for an incident in Hawthorn's Round 1 clash against the Bombers.

"We haven't had too much match committee looking forward at this point. We'll have our first match committee this afternoon to start to refine the team," Mitchell said.

"Connor MacDonald will train on Saturday and Sunday, so we still have another couple of sessions, and it is still quite early in the week.

"That's one of the options at our disposal, but we haven't got there yet."

On Scrimshaw, Mitchell was pleased to be able to potentially bring him back into the side.

"Obviously, getting him back from suspension will be good and being able to play in a practice match was actually quite helpful for him, so at least he could get a bit of game time.

"We'll have discussions about the team later in the week.โ€

Midfielder Conor Nash, who is recovering from an injury to his wrist, has all but been confirmed by Mitchell as a starter for the important clash, getting through today's training session unscathed.

"Conor Nash will be fine. His scans were not too bad, and he'll be available to play."

Mitchell continued saying that his men went to work on improving on their failed metrics from the Power clash, which has been their only blimp to date, sitting fifth with only one defeat.

"We've closed the door on that and learned some lessons. As evidence has suggested, when we work hard on things we can improve, and we know we need to improve from what we dished up on Sunday," Mitchell said.

"I think it's really important that the players know that it was a bad performance.

"We need to perform better than that, and we know there are things that we can do in our game that will ensure that we can play better.

"We had a really bad half of footy, we want to be competitive against the best sides and that's what we want to do."

Monday's clash is the fourth installment of the Dare to Hope game, which is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer research and a cause that is close to both the Hawks and the Cats, with Paul Dear and Mickey Turner unfortunately falling to the disease.

"It's very special for us as a club, and it's obviously very close to home for Calsher, with his father passing away recently, but also for Geelong, and they had Mickey Turner just at the end of last year pass away as well," the Hawks coach said.

"That we can bring a bit of hype around it would be great, and I think there's going to be a lot of people at the game and watch a couple of legends run around before it, as a way to spread some awareness about the Dare to Hope."

The Hawks clash against the Cats on Easter Monday is expected to be played in front of a bumper crowd of over 87,000.
