Hawthorn has recommitted to ruckman Ned Reeves for an extra three years, taking his new deal until the end of 2029.

Reeves joined the club via the SSP ahead of the 2019 season, and has played 43 games in the brown and gold.

He was drafted out of VAFA powerhouse St Kevin's Old Boys after he was overlooked in his draft year, despite spending time with the Oakleigh Chargers.

Reeves' development has shone through since joining the top-flight, playing a career-best 21 matches in 2023, before turning second-fiddle to Lloyd Meek following his trade from Fremantle two years ago.

The 27-year-old has played five games over the past two campaigns, mainly due to Meek's assertion as Hawthorn's No.1 big man, while also battling injuries.

However, Reeves' 2025 season showcased his immense talent and tremendous upside, dominating in the VFL and earning Team of the Year honours.

As a result, multiple clubs around the AFL asked the question of the 210cm's availability, with Collingwood and Carlton known suitors given their need for ruck depth and strength.

Reeves was signed for the 2026 season, but his deal ensures his future lies with Hawthorn, who took a punt on him six years ago.

"Ned has always been a crucial part of what we're building towards, and we are delighted to lock him away for a further three years," Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said.

"With a strong body of work already under his belt at AFL, Ned has shown his capacity to compete with some of the league's best rucks.

"At 27 years of age, Ned is reaching the peak of his powers, and we are confident his best footy is ahead of him in the next few years."
