Polarising Hawthorn star Jack Ginnivan is facing a short stint on the sideline after fracturing his finger during the Hawks' intraclub match simulation on Saturday morning.

The setback means the 23-year-old will face a time crunch to get fit for Opening Round, and will likely miss at least one of Hawthorn's two upcoming pre-season fixtures.

However, Hawthorn remain confident that the livewire's pre-season will only be interrupted for a couple of weeks and that Ginnivan will be fit for Opening Round against GWS on March 7.

Ginnivan had starred during the simulation before sustaining the injury, kicking five goals in a half of play, according to 7 News' Mitch Cleary.

It's an exciting look into what could be another year of growth for Ginnivan, proving to have the capability to punish in 2025 when pushed deep into forward 50, kicking 29 majors with an accuracy of 61 per cent.

Hawthorn begin their 2026 pre-season schedule with a match simulation hit out against long-time rivals Geelong on Monday, February 16, at the Kennedy Community Centre.
